These unparalleled times of the last few months have impacted us all, not least of all our small businesses and restaurants.
Education and Outreach
The AAC offers a wide range of classes and workshops, particularly focusing on the youth program. The goal is to nurture young talents, build confidence, and create accomplished artists. Outreach programs aim to make the arts accessible to a broader audience, including public, private, and homeschooled children. Additionally, the AAC seeks to integrate STEM and art (STEAM), demonstrating a commitment to a holistic education. Students are engaged at the intersection of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts.
Community Building
A sense of community is fostered through events like Art in the Park and City of Champions Comic Con. These community gatherings bring people together, support local vendors, and enhance the cultural vibrancy of the area. Having shared experiences is an important component of any healthy community.
Professional Shows
Providing high-quality professional shows that cater to a diverse audience, community members will find performances that speak to them. Renowned performances such as Heart by Heart, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Fleetwood Mask are among others. Shows aim toward cultural enrichment and bringing entertainment to the community.
Partnerships
Collaboration is a central theme of the organization. Working with local artists, schools, and businesses to promote art and culture in the region, the AAC aims to create a collaborative network that supports and celebrates the arts. Whether partnering with the Artesia Chamber of Commerce’s Paper Takes Flight or Artesia MainStreet’s Red Dirt Black Gold event and mural projects, these partnerships contribute to a thriving cultural scene.
Funding and Sustainability
The AAC relies on community support, donations, and grants to sustain its mission. They conduct annual fundraising efforts and strive for cost efficiency without compromising the quality of their offerings. All of these avenues are vital to the continuation of the mission. Community members can show support for the AAC by becoming a sponsor, attending shows and programs at the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center, and participating in community events.
Summer Programs
The well-loved Missoula Children’s Theatre Camp, Artrageous Artreach summer camp, and more weekly STEAM classes provide locals with a fun and educational experience during the summer months. By deepening the partnership with the New Mexico School for the Arts, the AAC will introduce a creative writing workshop to enhance literacy from middle school-aged children to adults, aligning with the Artesia Public School District’s call for community engagement in literacy improvement.
The multifaceted initiative of the AAC encompasses professional performances, education, community building, collaboration, and fostering a love for the arts in the community. Its commitment to diversity and inclusivity, as well as its focus on youth education and STEM integration, makes it a vital cultural institution in Southeast New Mexico. As citizens, we reap the benefits of their passion and effort.
