Making a Difference

“The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be silent.” Exodus 14:14

Good scripture. Great promise from God. The only bad part is the role we are asked to play. The Lord truly will fight our battles for us. He has a plan and He knows the outcome of everything we are facing. He knows what is coming even before we have any idea it is coming our way. Why would we not choose to let Him fight our battles? It just makes no sense.

But, God says we “need only to be silent.” That is the hard part. Silence is not usually our strongest feature! But what does He actually mean when He says “be silent?” I don’t know that He means absolute silence. I think He wants us to let go and quit worrying. I think He means we don’t need to be all over Facebook agonizing and seeking the opinions of others or the confirmation of others that things are really bad.

I think He means we need to open our hands and let Him hold whatever it is we want so desperately to hold on to ourselves. I think He means to trust Him completely and take Him at His word. If He says, “I got this.” then trust that He truly does.

We have to intentionally decide to let Him fight our battles. This has to be done each day. Sometimes even each minute! When people have mistreated us, we have to learn to let it go and trust that He is holding us. When we feel slighted in one way or another, this is when we need to open our hands and say, “Here it is God. I know that if I hang onto this, I will make it worse than it already is. I’m going to let you handle it.” Then let Him. Don’t keep trying to go back and get it!

God promises us all through His Word that He will be with us and care for us.

In Isaiah 41, He says “Do not fear, for I am with you.”

In Deuteronomy 31, it says, “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you.”

In John 16, Jesus says, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

In Philippians, Paul writes, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

So, give it all to Him. That is what He wants. Then let His peace wash over you as you trust Him with all your worries, cares and battles. He will take care of you. He loves you so much. Let Him be your Heavenly Father. It will make a difference.
