Presidents Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington, the first president of the United States, who was born on February 22, 1732. Now, the holiday is used to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present. For the general public, this means U.S. Post Offices and government buildings are closed. Schoolsgenerally have the day off. Retail and grocery stores typically remain open but modify their hours accordingly.
