The day that Henry’s BBQ closed up shop in Artesia remains branded in the minds of many; it was the day of the last perfect tea, the day of the last giant cinnamon roll, and the last day of a spicy, quick-witted social media feed written by owner Tawnya Henry. Did you have a need for a filling lunch? Dinner plans gone awry? Or just in need of the scoop about what’s happening around town? Henry’s had racks of ribs, spicy beans, all the local interest stories, and small business spirit. The prime business location stood empty for all of 2021, but new owners and movers and shakers, Aaron and Staci Rogers, will resurrect a BBQ joint in the same location under another name. The new name that the couple selected as an homage to the City of Champions is Touchdown BBQ.
Touchdown BBQ will dish up the same famous fare using original Henry’s recipes. Jon and Tawnya Henry agreed, as part of the business sale, to include the reliable and trustworthy equipment and recipes to the Rogers family. The Rogers family have scrambled the last few months to learn the tips and tricks of the BBQ trade and are proud to rekindle the smoke at 811 West Mainstreet. They encourage the community to come on out to Touchdown BBQ for their grand opening. Same great food and location, just under a new name. For Aaron, it doesn’t get any better than a rack of ribs. Staci loves the delectable pulled pork. And for the pair, the most rewarding aspect of their purchase of the iconic business has been working with local folks who have pulled together to help them make the reality of bringing BBQ back to Artesia possible. Staci- Stay at home mom turned realtor for Berkshire Hathaway, Staci keeps the home fires burning and manages the complex family calendar and diverse schedules.
Chaz (13)- Book loving and adventurous, the eldest of the Rogers kids who patiently looks after his sisters and mows the straightest lawn edges with great care.
Kenzie (12)- Artistic with a flair for the dramatic. She’s always got a big project in the works.
Tanzi (6)- She’s a legend in her own time. Fearless and athletic, Tanzi could be a stunt double or an international spy.
Mitzi (5)- The baby of the family: this sweet strawberry blonde keeps up with her older brother and sisters and never misses a beat.
