A tender, buttery scone with a sweet vanilla glaze serves the coziness of fall in every bite.
Perfect alongside a warm cup of coffee for breakfast, brunch, or as a sweet treat any time of day.
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups Flour
- ½ tsp Baking powder
- ½ tsp Baking soda
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ cup Sugar
- 5 Tbsp Unsalted butter, cold, cut into pieces
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup Sour cream
- 1 Egg yolk
- 2 tsp Vanilla
Glaze
- 1 ½ cups Powdered sugar
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl.
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream, egg yolk, and vanilla until well blended. Add to the dry ingredients and stir with a fork until the dough forms a cohesive ball. (It may not seem to have enough liquid, but it will come together.)
- Place the dough on an ungreased baking sheet and pat into a 1-inch-thick disc. Cut into wedges, but do not separate.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. While the scones bake, prepare the glaze.
- Place the powdered sugar in a bowl. Add water 1 teaspoon at a time, stirring until the glaze reaches the desired consistency.
- Brush the glaze over the hot scones and serve immediately.
