When I look at Downtown Artesia, my eyes are first drawn to recognizable constants: Heritage Walkway’s fountains bubbling in the summer, Christmas lights and ornaments twinkling in the winter, comforting tokens of home, reminders of where we come from and the work of those who came before us. These are roots that tether us all together.

When I look again, I cannot help but notice the people who gather in this area. People who take chances on their dreams and work hard to make them come true: bakers, bankers, barbers, baristas, designers, photographers, financial advisors, fashionistas, health professionals, and more. People who support those dreams as well. People who ask about your day and listen intently for a genuine answer. People who do not shy away from mistakes but lean in and are willing to tackle one another’s development like a group project. These are down to earth, homegrown, real live human beings.

This community has been growing for over 100 years and is certainly nothing new. Generations of directors have come before me to lend their hand and do their part, carefully cultivating the marvelous community that makes Artesia a wonderful place to live. The community that gave me the chance to grow into who I am today. As Artesia MainStreet’s Director, I aim to continue this work with fresh spirit and gratitude. I am new here, but the mission is the same: a better Artesia tomorrow than today. I am also pleased to introduce Gracie Carter, Artesia MainStreet’s Community and Events Coordinator, who will work alongside me to ensure Downtown Artesia continues to thrive as a central community gathering space and economic hub.

Finally, I would be remiss not to introduce to you two businesses new to the Downtown District: Crow’s Nest and Bulldog Outfitters. Crow’s Nest carries an eclectic collection of antiques ranging from fine art and furniture to small trinkets made to fit any budget. Bulldog Outfitters offers shirts, hats, jewelry, and cheer uniforms to fulfill your Bulldog Spirit needs and accepts custom orders for embroidery, vinyl, screen printing, and hats.
