We interviewed Margo Rand, LMT, Building Manager at 412 W. Main Street.

Give us a brief summary of the type of work you do or service you provide.

At Artesia Family Wellness we provide therapeutic and relaxation massage therapy. We have multiple therapists to offer a variety of techniques including deep tissue, cupping, Swedish massage, and hot stone therapy as well as trigger point therapy, pregnancy massage, and lymphatic massage post-surgery. Artesia Family Wellness also offers premium skin care with custom facials, body waxing, and LED light therapy with two estheticians who have recently joined our team. We help with pain, range of motion, anxiety, depression, and your overall wellness.

How long have you been in business? Tell us more about the history.

Over 17 years ago Rick Wiles, the founder and owner, retired from the Artesia Fire Department with a dream to open a facility to attain an education on the art of massage therapy. He started with some help from a massage therapist and educator from Hobbs and together they launched Artesia Family Wellness Massage School. He actually started the school before he himself dove into massage therapy. This dream of his bloomed over the years and grew so much over time. The Wellness has become a place to provide wellness, a place to obtain a professional education without leaving Artesia, and a place to house so many other small business professionals pursuing the same dream. His dream was to have a building full of therapists and provide our community with excellent care. Rick was my brother-in-law, and I am very proud to follow in his footsteps and keep his dream going. He gave me that passion to help others and I would not change anything. I am the building manager, licensed massage therapist, family, and your friend!

What makes your business unique?

We only have highly trained, licensed therapists who are equipped to handle any situation that might come through our doors. At Artesia Family Wellness you can experience massages, facials, body scrubs, and infrared sauna just to name a few. Your experience at the Wellness will be tailored to your needs. You can get a custom facial that is out of this world. This place can and is the one stop place to complete a high-end spa treatment or get an amazing therapeutic massage to help with pain and stress of the day.

What aspects of the business are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about helping my clients get through high levels of anxiety, chronic pain, and helping them release all that built tension running through their bodies. My other goal and love is to educate the public about our services, about how we truly can help with many things that you might think only the doctors or surgeons can handle. I want to tell people that we as therapists are highly educated in our profession and take an oath to do no harm and to help our clients the best we can. We take your pain and all the issues that may come with them very seriously.

How do you stay involved in the community?

I stay in touch with our local Chamber and our Downtown Mainstreet. These organizations are crucial to small business, and I find it to be very beneficial for a business. I work hard keeping up with the social train in making sure I post, share, and share more about our business. I think it is important to keep these platforms and lines of communication open and keep building relationships with the public in our community and communities further. I have lots of marketing background and enjoy this part of my job.

Tell us what makes your business unique compared to others in the same industry.

We house over 11 massage therapists and two estheticians who can help accomplish overall wellness. We are unique to have so many therapists under one roof, and we all stay very busy. We are able to also support our local Massage Therapy School right here in our building which really makes a win-win situation for us both as therapists and as a student about to graduate. I push hard to educate the public and keep our organization professional and approved by our State Licensing Board. Occasionally we are mistaken for the businesses that have recently opened up on 1st street. That is why it is very important to understand what we do. We are licensed, we are highly educated, and we are insured. All Massage Therapists and estheticians must be licensed by the state of New Mexico and must have accomplished many hours of education. There are some places and individuals who do not comply which is against the law. The public has to really understand who they are going to for treatment and also have trust in them. A good deal of education goes into our industry and line of work. We take pride to serve our community professionally with excellent care.
