Artist Pat Beason calls herself a transplant. She arrived in Carlsbad with her family in 1954 from Oklahoma. Her parents made the long-distance move to help run the Levine Store, and she began sixth grade at the Eddy School.
Beason paints ostrich and emu eggs and even gourds regularly. Check out her display of giant eggs, gourds, and canvases for sale at the Artist Gallery Downtown. Ripley’s Believe or Not purchased ten of her ornately painted and decorated eggs that are now on display at their museums around the country.
She has even painted four life-sized horses for the national artist project, The Trail of Painted Ponies. Beason was the only New Mexican artist to participate in the project in which artists donated their time to complete the ponies displayed around communities across the United States. She’s even painted four life-sized horses for The Trail of Painted Ponies. She painted ponies for Altrusa, the Boys and Girls Club, a local church, and one now sits at the college in Carlsbad.
