Some more good news out of Guadalupe Mountains National Park- the Park has announced that it will resume issuing wilderness permits for overnight camping in the Guadalupe Mountains Wildnerness. Remaining camp stove use restrictions have also been lifted. The Dog Canyon developed area remains closed due to a water system leak. For more information about Guadalupe Mountains National Park, visit www.nps.gov/gumo

Additionally, Sitting Bull Falls, in the Lincoln National Forest, is now back open seven days a week. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. and close to incoming traffic at 4 p.m. Sitting Bull Falls is one of our area’s greatest treasures, and a great place to cool off in the summer, but please help us avoid the issues we’ve had over the past few years with litter and left-behind picnic items. In 2020, the recreation area was forced to close after it was overwhelmed during Memorial Day weekend and visitors left behind piles of trash. Please help us keep this outstanding Eddy County location clean and beautiful.
