Inspired by Science a 501(c)3 based in Carlsbad, New Mexico landed at the Bulldog Training Center to host the Inspired by Science Artesia Camp of 2022 Monday through Wednesday July 11-13. The camp served Artesia Public School students beginning second through fifth grades.
The camp is a collaboration between the school district, the PY Foundation, and Inspired by Science. The camp addresses the desire for additional STEM based learning in the community. STEM, an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, is a hands-on approach to teaching certain scientific and mathematical concepts. The Artesia camp provided a variety of builds and kits to demonstrate concepts like hydraulic systems, circuits, gravity, forces, and friction to name a few. The builds were completed by the students under the supervision of a mix of volunteers through Inspired by Science, Artesia Public School educators, Kim Glennie, Desarae Pitts, Tomee England, and the APS Elementary Science Coordinators Felicia Velasquez and Kaity Hirst.
