36th Annual Milkman Triathlon at Lake Van

The 36th Annual Milkman Triathlon took place this past weekend at Lake Van in Dexter, NM. 89 Athletes from across the United States traveled to New Mexico to compete in the swim, bike, and running event. Triathletes competed in both solo events and team relays. The swim was .5K, the bike was a 20K ride, and the run was a 5K distance. Competitors began in the waters of Lake Van paddling across the body of water to access their bikes at the end of the swim. Once the athletes completed their bike portion of the race, they transitioned to the run portion.
 
Athletes competed in a variety of different age categories. Winners of each age category for solo entries earned a milk bottle as a trophy, and competitors placing in the top 10 earned a milk jug to be engraved with their names. Local Artesia athlete Deana Weaver, earned the top spot in her age division during the competition and 9th place overall. Deena describes the 36th annual triathlon as a beautiful day for the event and a great opportunity to compete alongside local, regional, and national triathletes.
