They’re cute, furry, and full of personality: dogs, pups, pooches in all manner of shapes, sizes, and breeds. Eddy County has a penchant for canine companions, so here’s a list of places to visit or patronize with a dog co-pilot:
1. Eagle Draw and the Navajo Nature Trail in Artesia. Park at the large parking lot on Centennial Drive. Leash up your pup and enjoy the three miles of sidewalk path and expansive green space. Trash cans are spaced at wide intervals but can be found to dispose of poo bags along the way. Remember to bring your own bags as none are provided on the route.
2. Jaycee Park at 1710 South 26th Street in Artesia. While this park is a traditional park and not a dog park, the vast acreage is perfect to explore with a dog. Trees and great swaths of lawn make for exciting outdoor adventures.
3. The Patio at Adobe Rose in Artesia. Grab a bite after your park adventures in Artesia with a furry friend. The patio is a shaded, cool spot to relax after a full day of walking.
4. The Carlsbad Dog Park located at 122 East Lea Street. The dog park is part of the Bataan Recreation Area near the Pecos River. The park is a large, fenced area with a small section designated for dogs weighing less than 25 pounds. The dog park is an off-leash experience for pups and is the ideal spot to play fetch and romp.
As always, remember to bring plastic sacks to clean up after your pet and place the bags in trash receptacles. Cleaning up after pets keeps the parks and trails clean, healthy, and inviting places to be with furry, four-legged friends.
