David Brunson has been bringing character and craftsmanship to the Artesia community since 1983.
With the encouragement and support of local businessman Wess Johnson and his wife, Mary, David established a boot-and-shoe repair business. Over the years, he has built a reputation for quality craftsmanship, specializing not only in repairs but also in custom handmade boots and a variety of leatherwork. In an era when traditional leatherworking skills have become increasingly uncommon, Brunson’s expertise remains both distinctive and highly valued, making every project a unique and rewarding challenge.
David and his family moved to Artesia in 1983, though they already had ties here. His wife, Brenda, was raised in Artesia and graduated from Artesia High School, making the town a natural fit. Together, they raised four children, three daughters and one son, who were homeschooled while actively participating in school activities. The Brunsons chose Artesia because they believed it was an exceptional place to raise a family, a conviction that has only grown stronger over the years.
Beyond his work as a craftsman, Brunson has been deeply involved in the life of the community through his church. From the beginning, he has served in local congregations as a youth leader, music minister, and pastor, investing decades in the spiritual and personal lives of those around him. These roles, combined with his work in the shop, have allowed him to know people from every walk of life.
Reflecting on more than four decades in Artesia, Brunson credits the community itself as one of the greatest blessings of his career. He has come to know residents as friendly and hardworking, as well as people of strong character. His commitment to these same qualities has made David Brunson a respected figure in Artesia, where his work continues to preserve a heritage trade while serving generations of families.
