Jose Pedroza Castillo, 77, of Algerita St., Carlsbad, NM, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022 followed by a Prayer Vigil at 6 p.m. at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Catarina Cemetery.

Jose was born on December 14, 1944 to Erminia Pedroza and Teodoro Castillo in Carlsbad, NM.  He married the love of his life, Mary Larez Castillo when he was a teenager. They grew up a block away from each other and he always knew she was going to be the one.

From picking cotton in his teens to getting married and having a family, he always made family a priority. After getting married, Jose was employed at United Salt in Carlsbad, NM. He was a long time employee of Texas Street Lumber from 1972-1989, where he was able to perfect his carpentry skills. He went on to build many items alongside his brothers, with the skills he was able to learn.

In the 1990’s he and his wife were in the choir at San Jose Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing the accordion and the guitar. He was always involved in all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren lives.

Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Parents and Brother-Manuel Castillo.

He is survived by his Sons: Bill L. Castillo and Jose L. Castillo, and Daughter: Virginia C. Estrada, all of Carlsbad. Granddaughter: Tiffany E. Duran and husband Jerry (Zach) Duran, Grandsons: Henry C. Estrada, Jeffery C. Estrada and wife Kaitlyn, Jeremy S. Estrada and Steven (Angel) Burruss. Great-Granddaughters: Sharalle Estrada, Adonica Estrada, Arienna Estrada, Kendra Shettler, Jessenia Rodriguez, Jazlynn Duran, Trinity Galvan and Jazmarie Estrada.  Great-Grandsons: Isaiah Rodriguez, Jeffery Jr. Estrada and Jayden Estrada; 8 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews as well as several godchildren.

Pallbearers: : Joe L. Castillo, Jeffery Estrada, Jeremy Estrada, Jerry Duran, Brandon Croley and Kaleo Sanchez.
