At its core, it is often defined as “the support of one’s country.” Simple enough on paper, but in practice, it can feel more complicated, sometimes even divisive in today’s world. In places like Artesia, however, patriotism is very apparent. In our community, it looks like American flags lining Main Street on patriotic holidays or even a Veteran Biker Group rolling through town, families gathered across town for a community event, and a city that chooses to celebrate its assets each and every Fourth of July.

Artesia Chamber of Commerce helps bring this day to life annually alongside many organizations, volunteers, and families who give their time and often their own resources to create an event for Artesia. While the day culminates with fireworks, it is never just that one event. It is a full day of shared effort, built by people who care deeply about where they live.

The year 2025 tested that commitment. When our long-standing fireworks crew had to step away, we found ourselves without a show. With limited options and even less time, we pivoted to a drone show on July 5. It was not perfect. Some loved the drones. Others missed the fireworks. But what mattered is the day did not pass without celebration of our country’s independence.

And then something happened that felt very…“City of Champions.”

We asked, knowing it was a big ask, if anyone would be willing to get certified as a fireworks technician. The class was just weeks away, held across the country. It would take time, money, and a whole lot of commitment. Someone said yes.

That “yes” was HUGE. Since Deans Pyrotechnic stopped producing our show, we had to rely on others to help us with our city fireworks show knowing it was a means to an end. Now, we are returning to a local company again, just in time for America’s 250th celebration.

And the 2026 day itself? It is shaping up to be one worth showing up for.

Our favorites are bringing great things again like the patriotic parade, Star-Spangled Dash 5K, Firecracker Scramble, cornhole tournament, and coed volleyball. We are asking everyone to step up as we are looking to expand the experience at Jaycee Park with live music, a lineup of food trucks, and a beer garden for those 21 and over.

Of course, the best events are the ones we do not plan alone. Maybe it is a pie-eating contest, a home run derby, or something yet to be imagined. That’s kind of the point.

Patriotism in Artesia is not just about celebration. It is about participation. It’s about people stepping in, stepping up, and deciding, together, what this community continues to be.

Because around here, patriotism does not just wave from a flag.

It shows up in the people who say “yes.”

And if history has anything to say about it, Artesia will not just celebrate the next 250 years…WE WILL BE HERE TO BUILD THEM.
