What type of work do you do?
I am a general contractor focusing on commercial construction, custom homes, and metal buildings.
What is the story behind your business?
I have been in business for 25 years. My father, Steve Frintz, was always doing some sort of construction; for as long as I can remember, I would always help him. Our family friend, Rex Prather, also taught me how to do trim work and other specialized construction skills. In 1997, I went to work full-time in construction with my father until he moved out of town in 1999. Trend Builders was born that following January of 2000, and I have loved every moment since.
What makes your business unique?
One thing that makes us unique is how long I have been in business. I was born and raised in Carlsbad, and most of my work has been in Carlsbad, Artesia, and the surrounding areas. The main thing I like to pride myself on is our finishes. We do a great job on the finish work. We make every effort to put out a quality product. I am very proud to say I have employees and subcontractors who have been with me for more than 20 years. Those relationships are extremely important in serving this community and leaving a quality structure and legacy.
What drives your passion for this work?
Every Project Brings a Challenge — I love the challenge every project brings. A client comes to you with a problem that they have no idea how to solve, and you must develop a solution without compromising safety. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the subsequent successful completion.
Meaningful Impact on the Community — As a small business owner, construction allows me to contribute positively to my local community. By providing high-quality roofing services and creating job opportunities for others, I feel like I am making a meaningful impact in the lives of those around me. It’s fulfilling to know that my work not only benefits my own livelihood but also has a positive ripple effect within my community.
Connection to Legacy and Values — My family has instilled in me the value of hard work, dedication, and serving our community. Growing up, I was continually inspired by the way my family members committed themselves to their craft. The tangible results of construction, being able to see a project evolve from concept to completion, ignites a sense of pride and accomplishment that fuels my passion every day.
Rewarding Problem-Solving — Every project is a puzzle: figuring out the best layout, integrating new technology, and making it all work together. No two projects are the same; it keeps things interesting and different every day.
Overall, the challenges, satisfaction, and impact of construction are what make me passionate about this industry and proud to be a part of it. As long as I am able, I will continue to pour my heart and soul into every project I am a part of.
In what ways do you stay connected to the Carlsbad community?
Mission Carlsbad – I have been a part of Mission Carlsbad for 11 years. It is a week-long project during the first week in June. It is a Christian-based youth program, ages 13 to 18 with adult supervision, working on 15–20 houses in need over the week. We do a lot of roofs, handicap ramps, bath remodels, and the list goes on, depending on the needs of the homeowners. Cody May, a contractor, and I manage all the work during the week. The best thing about it all is that it doesn’t cost the homeowner a penny. Everything is donated.
Board of Directors for LifeHouse – LifeHouse is an organization that is changing the mental health and substance use outcomes in our community. We do this by providing a holistic continuum of care for the individual’s mental health and substance use struggles. Carlsbad LifeHouse Counseling ensures that individuals of all ages experiencing mental health issues and/or life hardships can better manage life experiences; achieve personal goals; and live, work, and participate in their community.
Active in my Church – I am on several boards at my Church. From Chair of the Trustees to Church Council, my faith is an important part of my life. I want to help share the word of Jesus, not only in my church, but in our community. I help a church in Hope by preaching there on the second Sunday of each month. I also have worked many “A Closer Walks.” Our church also cooks for our community and congregation once a month during the school year. I cook for the church on Wednesday nights once a month for our youth congregation and anyone else who wants a meal.
I am incredibly fortunate that my team members, subcontractors, clients, and community make working a joy and a privilege. All of your support, faith, and loyalty inspire me to keep striving for excellence. I thank you all for your trust and continued support. I value all the businesses I have been blessed with and appreciate the opportunity to serve. I am excited about the projects that are yet to come!
