Vacations provide a refreshing opportunity to unwind, indulge, and step away from ordinary routines.

Yet, it is still possible to maintain a healthy lifestyle amidst this relaxed atmosphere. When traveling this summer, consider integrating these healthy tips. They will not only enhance your vacation experience but also help you feel more rejuvenated upon your return home.

  1. Stay hydrated.

Drinking plenty of water cannot be overemphasized. Not only do our bodies depend on water to function at optimal levels, but staying hydrated also curbs the appetite to prevent overeating.

  1. Pack your snacks.

Bringing your snacks allows you to make healthy choices ahead of time. Fresh fruit, string cheese, nuts, cheese sticks, yogurt, and trail mix all are packed with nutrients and are travel-friendly. Set a healthy tone for your trip by choosing nutritious snacks.

  1. Don’t skip meals.

It is often tempting to “save calories” by skipping meals. But the truth is that skipping meals usually leads to overconsumption later. Opt instead for smaller, frequent meals throughout the day to sustain energy levels.

  1. Reserve lodging with a kitchen.

Although dining out and taking a break from cooking is part of the vacation experience, prioritizing at least one homemade meal per day contributes to better health. Consider starting the day with a light breakfast of yogurt, berries, and whole wheat toast, or enjoy a refreshing lunch of chicken salad with a side of veggies.

  1. Control portion sizes.

Whether snacking during a road trip or exploring new culinary delights at a restaurant, portion control is a must. Prepare snack bags ahead of time to portion out snacks or share a meal when eating out. You can still savor all of the delicious treats; just enjoy them in moderation!

  1. Stay active.

Vacations are a perfect opportunity to relax, but relaxation does not always equal inactivity. Between breaks, find moments to stretch or go for a walk. Not only can staying active be rejuvenating, but you will more fully enjoy the time away.

  1. Enjoy!

Embracing a healthy lifestyle includes yummy treats now and then. If you typically prioritize good health, permit yourself to deviate from the usual and indulge in a different rhythm.
