What if you were given thirty days to change your life?
What is your mission?
The Mission of Carlsbad LifeHouse is to change the mental health and substance use outcomes in our community. We do this by providing a holistic continuum of care for the individual’s mental health and substance use struggles. Carlsbad LifeHouse Counseling ensures that individuals of all ages who are experiencing mental health issues and/or life hardships can better manage life experiences; achieve personal goals; and live, work, and participate in their community.
Carlsbad LifeHouse Detox, Villa de Esperanza, and other substance abuse services enrich the lives of those affected by substance use and co-occurring disorders through the provision of affordable, comprehensive, and effective treatment. Carlsbad LifeHouse Sober Living helps individuals in substance abuse recovery transition from inpatient rehabilitation or incarceration to sustainably sober, abundant life.
What needs does your organization have?
We are currently constructing two new sober living homes, and we need to raise another $150,000 to complete this project. We also regularly depend on volunteers to provide life skills classes and share their stories with our residents.
How do you help people “grow good” and “create space for the good in life”?
With the variety of services that we provide, there are many ways that we help people “grow the good life.” You cannot have good health without good mental health. It is normal for someone to need help processing and coping with mental health struggles and trauma. Our programs help people with their struggles and enable them to thrive. Our residential programs help people with significant substance use problems. They have often struggled with these for many years and lost a lot.
LifeHouse teaches them a new way of life in a supportive and accountable environment. They can learn the skills that they never developed and have the support they never had, so they can attain the life for which they were created.
What do you want the community to know?
We want everyone to know that help is available and that it is okay to ask for help. Too often we are ashamed to admit our struggles with mental health and substance abuse, but these are normal things with which people struggle, and help is right here.
How can the community help you in fulfilling the mission?
Our mission is to change the substance use and mental health outcomes in our community. The treatment that we provide plays a major role in improving these outcomes, but everyone has a part to play. Everyone can talk about mental health and make it OK to ask for help. Also, it means a lot to our residents to have a community who believes that recovery is possible and is willing to take a chance on someone trying to change their life.
