August 7, 2023 marks the first day of school for most of Carlsbad’s scholars, with some schools starting later this week. As scholars return to school keep in mind foot traffic around schools increases as should driver awareness for these kiddos and their families as they walk to and from school. School Zones are in place to assist with the safety of children, please adhere to them and remember the first few days are usually a bit frustrating while parents and school personnel work out kinks in drop off and pick up systems.

Most schools in the Carlsbad Municipal School District have multiple ways of communication. You can sign up for text alerts, emails, and many teachers have their own form of communication. Sign up with your child’s school to stay in the loop. 

Exciting news for area students is that ALL schools and students get breakfast and lunch for free this year. The District has asked that parents or guardians still fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch forms, as that assists each school with funding. The first football game of the year will be on Friday August 18th, 2023 against Artesia. The Homecoming game will be Friday August 25th, 2023. These are both home games for CHS.  Focus NM Daily wishes all students, teachers, and staff heading back to school a safe, successful, and wonderful year!
