The City of Carlsbad hosted the annual Carlsbad Law Enforcement Memorial Celebration Friday, May 19th in front of the Janell Whitlock Municipal Annex. During the ceremony was a presentation of colors and a 21 Gun Salute.
Captain Duarte read a bio of officer Melvin Hodges, an officer killed in a motorcycle accident at the corner of Muscatel and the Hobbs Highway on June 7, 1962. He had only been on the job for three months. Chief Skinner and Mayor Janway also gave brief remarks, as well as honoring local detectives for their work in solving a decades old cold case.
Mayor Janway shared in his speech that the ceremony honors our Law Enforcement Officers and their commitment to sacrifice, and how they walk into the face of danger while having us citizens move back to safety. A reception followed inside the council chambers. Follow the City of Carlsbad’s Facebook page for notifications on events like this.
