Two local art shows are happening simultaneously at the Carlsbad Museum. The Carlsbad Municipal Schools annual art show continues through April 28th with secondary student art on exhibit now. Also on display are works from the Carlsbad Area Artist Association (CAAA), this show closes May 6th.
“Carlsbad Museum is one of the few public places in Carlsbad that allows our city’s many artistically-inclined residents to showcase their work. The museum hosts multiple community-generated exhibits each year, including The Carlsbad Municipal Schools primary and secondary shows, the Carlsbad Area Arts Association show, and the Zia Quilting and Stitchery Guild show,” shared Edward Vanscotter, interim Museum Director.
Admission to the museum is always free, and the hours of operation are Tuesday – Friday 10 am – 5 pm, and on Saturday from 10 am – 2:30 pm and closed on Sunday and Monday. While visiting the museum you’ll see the current temporary exhibitions along with permanent displays about area history and local & regional art.
“Our next large exhibit, “One Drip at a Time,” will be a collaborative exhibit with the National Park Service celebrating the 100th anniversary of Carlsbad Caverns becoming a National Park. This exhibit will open to the public on May 30. Our popular Art Academy program will come back for the summer, and we are looking to have information about class offerings soon. In November, we will bring the guitar exhibit “America at the Crossroads: The Guitar & A Changing Nation” from the National Guitar Museum. Carlsbad Museum previously hosted another one of their guitar exhibits in 2020, but we were closed to the public while hosting the exhibit because of the pandemic. The Carlsbad Hall of Fame is continuously expanding. Please follow us on social media or at our website at www.carlsbadmuseum.org to learn about upcoming Hall of Fame inductions and other events and exhibits,” Vanscotter shared.
