The State Concert Band Contest was held April 20th-April 22nd in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Artesia High School Concert Band brought a strong performance, securing 2nd place in the state. With this being only the second State Concert Band Contest since 2019 (due to COVID regulations), students continue to be thankful for opportunities to compete in person.
Band performance takes a special level of skill. From the ability to read music to learning multiple pieces to holding an instrument in the same position for an extended period of time, playing music engages the mind and body. Each player must practice individually while learning how they fit in concert with numerous other instruments. The band must also maintain a calm demeanor under pressure as the audience locks into the stage during a performance.
Life simply would not be the same without music. Imagine going to a football game without the band or watching a movie without a soundtrack. Music sets the tone for events and even has the power to change the mood of the hearer. Simply stated, music can harmonize the rhythm of life.
Congratulations to the Artesia High School Concert Band! Your hard work and countless hours of practice have paid off!
