The spring winds in Southeast New Mexico carry with them many unpredictable factors for outdoor athletics. Succeeding in the ever changing pace of the wind (and often blowing dirt) takes a certain level of mental fortitude and a great amount of grit.
Come wind or shine, sports carry on and today was no exception for Artesia High School Varsity Tennis. Despite a Red Flag Warning, Wind Advisory, and guests up to 42 mph, the matches were business as usual. And for Artesia players and fans, the windy play was well worth the outcome.
Artesia tennis opened district today at the Mack Chase Athletic Complex by hosting the Portales Dual. The Bulldogs won all 6 matches they could play (as Portales did not have a full team today). The Lady Bulldogs won all singles and all doubles, making for a successful day all around.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are next scheduled for the Goddard Dual on Thursday, April 6th starting at 3:00 pm at Goddard High School in Roswell.
