Making a Difference Making a Difference

In our courthouse, there are marble steps on the stairs. These marble steps have been there for almost 100 years. As I have gone up and down those stairs, I have noticed that there are indentions worn into them where people have walked up and down so many times. The edges are worn rounded and uneven. Probably not anything very many people notice. Every single time I walk those stairs, I think about how many feet have gone up and down those stairs in almost 100 years. How long did it take to wear that marble down to where you could see low worn spots? In researching, marble falls about midrange on the hardest stones. But still, a hard stone to just wear out with regular use.

When I walk those courthouse steps, I always think about the legacy and what was left behind for me and what I am leaving behind for the next generation. I know that I am blessed that I had Godly parents who raised me. They made an indention in solid ground. Their parents before them had worn those same spots. I am trying hard to keep wearing those same spots in the ground where my footprints fall. I want my kids and my grandkids to be able to see my tracks and follow them. The steps we leave behind should be steps worth walking and steps that should last. As we raise our families, we need to be sure that we are raising them right and on solid ground.

There is a song I love so much. “Find Us Faithful.” The words to this song say better than I how important it is to leave strong steady footprints in solid ground for our family.

O may all who come behind us Find us faithful, May the fire of our devotion Light their way. May the footprints that we leave, Lead them to believe, And the lives we live Inspire them to obey. O may all who come behind us Find us faithful.

The last verse of this song says,

Surrounded by so great A cloud of witnesses, Let us run the race Not only for the prize, But as those who’ve gone before us. Let us leave to those behind us, The heritage of faithfulness Passed on thru godly lives. After all our hopes and dreams Have come and gone, And our children sift thru all We’ve left behind, May the clues that they discover, And the mem’ries they uncover, Become the light that leads them, To the road we each must find.

My prayer today is that my kids and grandkids do find me faithful and do find my life as one that left deep footprints for them to follow.

Leave a life that leaves deep footprints of faithfulness to God and His ways. It will make a difference for generations to come.
