Seven varsity and junior varsity (JV) boys basketball teams competed in the North/South Shoutout that was held in Artesia January 5 – 7, 2023. It was a round robin type of tournament where each team played each team, but there was no winner.
“The shoutout was created to save money and travel for northern teams,” said Artesia Head Boys Coach Michael Mondragon. “It consisted of three northern teams; Los Alamos, Belen, and Taos. And from our district it was Lovington, Goddard, and Artesia. Las Cruces filled in for Los Alamos on January 5th because Los Alamos couldn’t come until the 6th.”

Both the Artesia boys and girls teams head to Albuquerque for the Hope Christian tournament Thursday through Saturday. The boys first game is Thursday, January 12 against Shiprock at 1:30 pm. Both the boys and girls games at the tournament will be broadcast on KSVP TV.
