We have a brief update on the effort to expand a vocational training program at Southeast New Mexico College. Dr. Ned Elkins, who is the chairman of the college board, has appointed an ad hoc committee to work on this important process. An application for a grant was due to the Department of Energy by Dec. 21. Special thanks to The Grant Plant, for assisting with this application, and the Permian Strategic Partnership, for generously agreeing to support the grant application process.

WIPP, the oil and gas industry and potash are all being included in the discussion about this program, which will include the construction of a new building at the college. Additionally, the college is working closely with Carlsbad Municipal Schools, who is continuing to develop its academy program. There’s a lot of great effort being put forth to provide training opportunities for our local workforce.
