Artesia General Hospital provides a full range of primary medical services to adults and children at the hospital in Artesia, as well as at rural medical clinics in both Artesia and Carlsbad. Under the leadership of our CEO—who is a physician himself—our team provides carefully coordinated care between the clinics’ healthcare professionals and the Artesia General Hospital specialists. We offer our patients complete access to the latest innovations and treatment options—as well as deliver compassionate care for all.

How long have you been in business? Please share a brief history.

The hospital opened in 1939; however, the Artesia Healthcare Professionals started seeing patients in Carlsbad in 2012. We have always had our patients’ best interests at heart and felt like we could offer more convenient and accessible care if we opened offices in Carlsbad, too.

What makes your business unique?

The Artesia Healthcare Professionals operates as standalone rural health clinics associated with a 49-bed nonprofit hospital that is owned and operated by the community and not a corporation; it is headed by a governing board and the Special Hospital District Board. The Artesia Healthcare Professionals work in collaboration with staff at our main hospital, along with other healthcare professionals in both Carlsbad and Artesia, to offer quality care for all patients.

With support from the Special Hospital District Board, we have state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment available to our patients—equipment that is often lacking at larger, corporately owned hospitals. For example, our 128-slice CT Scanner is a cutting-edge piece of technology that is currently in a mobile unit while space is being prepared to house it.

Our providers in Carlsbad have broad medical knowledge, thanks to their training and experience as well as collaboration with and mentorship by other Artesia Healthcare Professionals. They include family practitioners, orthopedic surgeons and their support staff, behavioral health providers, and radiology technicians. These providers offer medical care using the best methods of treatment for their patients with all the latest modalities and diagnostic equipment available.

What aspect of this business are you most passionate about?

We are most passionate about providing high-quality, patient-focused healthcare that is readily accessible, cost-effective, and able to meet the needs of our patients.

How do you stay involved in the community?

We financially support many of Carlsbad’s community events and activities. We also volunteer in the community at different events.

Tell us what makes your business unique compared to others in the same industry.

Our rural clinics and our hospital are physician-led and not by corporate entities. Some of our healthcare providers were born and raised in this area and decided to come “home” to provide care to their friends, families, and acquaintances rather than have practices in larger cities.

In September we reopened our multi-specialty clinic, located at 1410 N. 8th, Suite B. Services will include endocrinology, diabetes management, podiatry, and pain management.
