Making a Difference Making a Difference

It is finally the first day of Fall. I have to tell you I am ready! This summer seemed to be so hot and so dry. The word I keep using for the heat is relentless. The heat was unrelenting all summer long. Of course, it is still supposed to be in the 90s this week, but at least there is a cooldown in sight. I really do like the change of the seasons, around our neck of the woods. There just begins to be such a difference in the air.

The harvest time of year has long been my favorite, even though this year, the harvest will not be plentiful. In a hot dry year like we have had, there just isn’t much in the ground to harvest. But God is still good and there is always tomorrow. I can remember some really great harvests, and I can remember some that were heartbreaking, and even one that really began the end of my farming career. No, our harvest will not be much this year on the farms in our area, but there is one harvest that is ready and bursting at the seams.

Jesus says in His Word, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” The words previous to this talk about how He was looking at the crowd and could see that their needs were so many. He said they were like sheep without a shepherd. He calls us out to work these fields. These fields are your friends and neighbors. They are the kids in your classroom. They are the people with whom you work. The harvest is sharing the good news about Jesus Christ with those around you, so they too can trust in your Savior.

There are many, many cotton strippers that will not even be started up this fall. There are many peanut diggers that will never leave the shed. But, as Christians, there is always a harvest in front of us. There is always someone who needs to hear God’s message of forgiveness and salvation.  He just needs willing workers.  How willing are you to be one of His workers? How willing are you to be that one who will share what God has done in your life?

He is not asking a hard thing of us. He is just simply asking us to live boldly before the world. He is asking us to stand up for what is right and true. He is asking us to live according to His Word. Then, He is asking us to tell others what He has done for us.

Be willing and ready to help harvest the fields for Jesus. Be ready to share your stories. Be ready to be the one that made a difference for someone else.

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Will you be a worker in this field? It will make a difference.
