Update 9-22-22

It’s a bye week on football, but there’s plenty going on around Carlsbad.

Several Carlsbad locations have musical acts planned this weekend. Milton’s Brewing will be celebrating its “Septembeer Fest” from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. downtown. Musical acts include the Matthew Palmer Band, Beer Cousins, Chris Baker, CW & The Longhairs and That Captain. General admission is $5. Vendors and food trucks will also be set up downtown. There are also special packages offering commemorative mugs.

JD Strait will be playing at Cal’s Shade Western on Friday night from 6-9 p.m. JD Strait, also known as Danny Fletcher, has an incredible musical career. We’re excited about this opportunity to listen to him play. Danny is a very involved resident of our community who serves as the chairman of our energy summit and Independence Day committee.

The Renegade Rodeo Tour is going on Friday and Saturday at the Eddy County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Arena. Starting time both nights is 7 p.m. Relay for Life, which raises money in the fight against cancer,  begins at 5:30 p.m. at the beach bandshell. The Cavegirl soccer team plays in Lovington on Saturday while the cross country team will be racing at Organ Mountain.

This will also be the last weekend for the Carlsbad Water Park to be open in 2022. The park will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Come out and enjoy one last trip down the water slide.

We’ve had some confusion related to our online utility bill paying system recently. Due to a system upgrade, users will need to make a new account to access the water bill portal. You can certainly use your previous email and password if desired. The water bill portal is available by visiting https://carlsbadnm.munisselfservice.com/css/ and clicking on the “Citizen Self Service” tab. It’s an easy way to handle utility bill payments once it is set up.

Mark your calendar for Oct. 8, that’s when the City will be sponsoring another Household Hazardous Waste Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carlsbad Beach. This is the day for residential dropoff of tires, fertilizers, paint thinner, gasoline, cleaning products, anti-freeze, batteries, e-waste and more. There’s also a confidential pharmaceutical takeback. For more information, please call (575) 628-8176.

This is a very important, popular cleanup activity, and it offers residents a way to safely get rid of materials that might not belong in the landfill.

Sincerely,

Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway
