“Going Green”—We have all heard the phrase and know the importance of recycling and sustainable living.

Although it may be a new mindset for many of us to adopt, now it is more important than ever to take steps to go green for our health, for our environment, and for our future. This commitment to sustainability can be applied on a small scale, just by making some adjustments to our daily habits and on a larger scale, like a multi-million-dollar renewable diesel plant that will be built in our community!

While we all have the tendency to think “Reduce, reuse, recycle!” when we read a title about going green, our team wanted to think outside the box! In this edition of Focus on Artesia, we present to you all of the unique ways New Mexico is Going Green! From green chile to green houses, fields of green, and even saving some green (cha ching!); we have a lot to share about our Southern New Mexico community in this issue.

Fall is in full swing, and there is nothing more enchanting than the smell of roasted green chile, the sound of a crackling fire, and the sense of community spirit that comes with this time of year. There is so much to look forward to in the coming months, from the annual Red Dirt Black Gold Festival to a visit at Heirloom Acres Pumpkin Patch. This season is packed with local fun for the whole family. Be sure to check out our calendar of events and the special events sections from the Artesia Chamber of Commerce and The Ocotillo Theater!

It is our honor to continue sharing the stories of the Pecos Valley. Even as a native New Mexican and lifelong resident of Artesia, I still have so much more to learn about the people, events, and businesses in our region. Our contributors wrote some fun reads for this issue, including local green chile traditions, the inside scoop on the new turf installed at the famous Bulldog Bowl, and an interesting profile with the owners of Artesia’s new green business.

Check out our website, Focus NM Daily for a digital copy of this issue and all of our past magazine content. As your local source for all things community news and lifestyle in Southeast New Mexico, our team continues to be committed to publishing stories in print and online to celebrate our city!

As always, thank you for being a supporter of our publication!
