Making a Difference Making a Difference

“Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in Me.” These words from John 14 offer us so much comfort. One night, back when I was still actively involved in farming, I woke myself up one morning repeating those words out loud. Life was so stressful then. So many things heavy on my mind. Farming is not for the faint of heart, I can tell you that! But, I will never forget that feeling of peace as I heard myself repeating those words over and over. That was the Holy Spirit bringing comfort even in my sleep.

God’s Word should always be our first choice for peace. There are so many words of comfort and reassurance in His Word. The real truth is that God does not want His kids to be overly worried and concerned about things. He wants us to do what is required of us to the best of our ability and then place it in His hands. He is not going to just automatically bail you out if you are not getting your job done. But, if we are doing all we should, He will stand with us and bring us comfort and peace when worry tries to enter our minds. He wants to do that.

When I was little, if I was sick, Daddy would always bring me a toy of some kind. When I was an adult and would be sick or worried, Daddy would show up at my house with a sack of groceries and a $20! Even when I was grown, he did not want me worried or sick. He wanted me better always. God is oh so much more than that! He doesn’t want us to struggle and be stressed. I will be honest with you. I have had a couple of things on my mind lately that I have allowed to keep me awake and take away a bit of my peace. One of those was resolved today, and not in the way I wanted. It is weighing heavy on my mind. But that was just when those words that I used at the beginning popped into my brain. “Let not your heart be troubled.”
So, I will let it go and will not let it steal my joy today. I will let God take this worry, concern, aggravation away. I will try hard not to grab it back and worry more. Another verse in the Bible that speaks of peace is in Psalm 46:10. “Be still and know that I am God.” What He means is quit struggling and trying to hold on to our worries and troubles. Give them up and just be still and let the Holy Spirit bring you peace.

Whatever is weighing you down today, let Him have it. Give Him your struggles and your worries. When the devil tempts you, and he does, to hold onto your problems and lose sleep over them, just speak the Name of God and give it all to Him. He has sent His Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to bring peace to your heart. As the Bible says in Philippians 4:6, “And the peace that passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Give it all to God. Let not your heart be troubled. Be still and know that He is God and let that peace that the world will never understand cover your heart and mind. It will make a difference!
