The tragedies which happened in schools across the nation this spring left many Americans feeling vulnerable and fearful of active shooter situations in their local communities. To help assuage these feelings of fear and vulnerability, Eddy County Sheriff Mark Cage will offer active shooter training for the public at no cost through Operation Hard Target twice a month. These training sessions are designed for groups of 15 individuals or more. Businesses, schools, faith groups, civic organizations, and more are invited to register for the upcoming training. The goal of the training is to make Eddy County a hard target for active shooter situations.
The first session will be offered July 30th at 1-5 pm. Registration for individuals and groups can be found here: Operation Hard Target | Eddy County, NM. Topics that will be covered include run, hide, flight response; lessons learned from previous events; using resources available to protect yourself and others; what vital information needs to be given to emergency dispatchers; and the importance of a survival mindset.
