New Mexico hunting draw results are out!
Did you score that rifle tag you were hoping for? Maybe an elk archery hunt in Unit 34? Maybe you would like to brush up on your personal protection firearm skills or teach your kids how to shoot a .22. Sure, brass is a hot commodity, but can you put a price on family bonding over some pew pew?
Hunters, archers, and gun enthusiasts alike can make their way to Carlsbad’s own Shooting Range and Action Sports Recreation Area. Free of charge and open to the public seven days a week, the recreation area offers shooting ranges for skeet/trap, handguns, hunter pistols, cowboy action guns, long range rifles, and metal silhouette shooting targets. There are also known distance ranges and 3D archery ranges. The rec area also includes a runway for RC (remote control) planes.
The Cavern City Action Shooters host a monthly USPSA match at the Shooting Range. The United States Practical Shooting Association matches are skilled shooting competitions that consist of fast action firearm shooting. Members compete for national rankings.
Carlsbad RC Flyers also meet at the Recreation Area to host club meetings and events.
Community member and shooting range enthusiast, Jared Fox, implores the public to remember that the Shooting Range and Action Sports Recreation Area “is an exceptional resource for Carlsbad and surrounding communities and it is our duty to take care of the range. Clean up your shells, targets, and trash. Leave the rec area better than you found it.”
