Popeye’s opened its doors to the Artesia community July 6th. Popeye’s is a restaurant franchise which dishes up its signature spicy fried chicken in the New Orleans tradition.The Popeye’s location at 2511 West Main Street, along the intersection of 26th Street and Main, has been under construction for about a year and completely transformed the empty lot. The restaurant provides both indoor dining and drive through options for convenience. 

 

The first branch of the restaurant opened in 1972 by Al Copeland. According to the Popeye’s restaurant, “Popeye’s culinary heritage is built upon the rich Cajun and creole flavor profiles that are unmistakably Louisiana… Popeye’s distinguishes itself with a unique New Orleans style menu featuring spicy chicken, chicken tenders, fried shrimp and other regional items. This unique and flavorful food has allowed Popeye’s to become one of the world’s largest chicken quick service restaurants, with over 2,700 restaurants in the U.S. and around the world.”
