Artesia celebrated the Fourth of July with many different ways to join the community festivities! The numerous events reflect the many areas of interest community members share. The Artesia Chamber of Commerce orchestrates the annual Fourth of July Extravaganza working with a plethora of community organizations and local non-profits. Each organization leads an event to celebrate July 4th in the spirit of bringing folks together to celebrate this great and diverse nation. 

 

The Firecracker Golf Tournament and the Big Rig Truck Rodeo commenced the Extravaganza. The Star Spangled Dash was a fun run and roll event where families could ride, walk, and run together before the heat of the day. Volunteers attended the dash to toss colored chalk at participants. A volleyball and cornhole tournament brought friends and families together for a bit of good-spirited competition at Jaycee Park. Watermelon and popsicles were plentiful at the sandpit courts and vast green space in Jaycee Park.

 

The parade route received an update this year. Instead of rolling down Mainstreet, the annual parade took place around Eagle Draw with the start and finishing point at the parking lot of the Bulldog Bowl. Artesians hosted watch parties at their homes along the parade route and set up under the shade trees around the draw to wave at the parade floats going by. 

 

Fireworks were the pièce de resistance of the weekend with a thirty minute display shooting from Jaycee Park after dark. The fireworks display can be watched in Artesia from many different vantage points around town. Popular spots include the neighborhoods around Grand and Hermosa Streets. The parking lot of the Artesia Country Club also offers a nearly panoramic view of the professional fireworks display brought to Artesia by the Chamber of Commerce as well as the multitude of backyard firework displays around town.
