Edwardo G. “Eddie” Martinez, 57, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Eddie was born April 26, 1965, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Tomas and Elfida (Gonzalez) Martinez.
Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM Thursday, June 9, 2022 at San Jose Catholic Church, followed by Funeral Mass at 11 AM, with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Cremation will take place after the Mass. Visitation will be 1-6 PM, Wednesday at West Funeral Home.
Eddie started his career as a mechanic at a young age, working alongside his father. Over the years, Eddie spent much of his time working on cars and carpentry. While living in Iowa, he enjoyed his work at an accessory shop where he could continue working on cars, which he loved. He spent many hours detailing his vehicles.
Eddie had a special relationship with each of his siblings. He had a way of always making everyone laugh. He cherished his time with each of his sons, Eddie and Michael. All of his nieces and nephews have fond memories of their “Bobo”. He made sure to show up with Easter baskets, fireworks, and money for each of his grandchildren over the years. Eddie also cherished his furry friend, Chapo. Some of his favorite hobbies were drawing, painting, and constructing model cars.
Eddie was preceded in death by his son, Michael Martinez; father, Tomas Martinez; grandson, Marcus Martinez; brother, Alfredo Martinez; paternal grandparents, Jose and Felipa Martinez; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Benita Gonzalez; nephew, Gabriel Ortega, and brother-in-law, Alfredo Ortega.
Eddie is survived by his son, Eddie Duarte (Kayme); mother, Elfida Martinez; siblings: Norma Pompa (Philip), Gloria Ortega, Tommy Martinez (Elva), Kathy Ortega (Raul), and Terri Martinez; grandchildren: Lane Burkeen, Brook’Lynn Navarrette, Koen Duarte, and Hannli Duarte, all of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Alfredo Ortega Jr., Rashod Amos, Christopher Ortega, Raul Ortega Jr., Samuel Martinez, Raul Ortega Sr., Frankie Pompa, and Albert Gonzalez. Honorary Pallbearers: R.J. Amos, Koen Duarte, James Moreno, and Christopher Ortega Jr.
