There’s a lot going on Friday, including the 7 p.m. baseball game and a 5 p.m. softball playoff against Sandia across the street.  The Carlsbad High School Theater’s production of “The Wizard of Oz” will also debut at 7 p.m. Friday night. If you can’t make it that night, you can also see the play on May 7, 13 or 14 at the CHS Little Theater. 

Finally, New Mexico State University- Carlsbad will be holding its commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday at the civic center. The college is also having a graduation parade on Thursday evening. Weekend activities include a Cinco de Mayo parade and celebration at the Ray Anaya San Jose Plaza. It will be another very busy week in Carlsbad. 

On Thursday morning, we’re going to be celebrating the return of our annual prayer breakfast at the civic center. We just can’t say enough about the members of our committee who put it together this year: Pastor Kevin Pence and Pastor Gabe Rubio, Dr. Judy Lim, Pastor Destry McDonald, Pastor Brad Coates, Father Juan Carlos Ramirez and Pastor Scott Meador. This outstanding group organized the event, which was financed through generous sponsors. Mostly, we want to thank the family members of Ron Griffith, who organized the prayer breakfast for many years. Ron left some big shoes to fill, but the committee did an outstanding job.
