Here comes the sun! Park days and play dates are in order, and it looks like Martin Lurther King, Jr. Park is ready to host. MLK Park, located at 902 N. 13th Street in Artesia, received some new shade structures. The metal roofed structures covering the picnic tables replaced the faded and heavily weather-worn canopies which previously provided shade for the park. Replacing the canopies brightens the overall appearance of the park as well as makes the park a safer place to be when the temperature soars because there are functional shelters to escape from the sun’s rays.
Other amenities of MLK park include a large covered picnic area for groups, a skate park, a walking path shaded by cottonwood trees, and two play structures for children of different age groups, one for kids under 5 years of age and the other geared for kids over 5 years of age. MLK also sports a splash pad for Artesia’s youth; however, it has remained closed due to the presence of a leak. As the park shade structures received some TLC, here’s hoping that the splash pad also receives a bit of the same care and maintenance in the near future.
