The March 8th City Council meeting began with an invocation and the pledge of allegiance. Council approved the consent agenda which included the February 22nd meeting minutes. Additionally on the consent agenda was the permission to advertise the following city positions: the Human Resources Director, Equipment Operator for the cemetery, a Certified Police Officer, and two Van Drivers in the Commission of Aging Department.

The date of April 12, 2022 set for the consideration and approval of the Sewer Use and Wastewater Control Ordinance.

The Human Resources Department gave permission for one employee to attend the NM District Attorneys’ Association 2022 Spring Conference in Albuquerque. A police officer will attend online training for Ultimate Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Power Point, and Access. The newly elected officials will attend the NMML training in Santa Fe.

In public hearings, an agreement for Artesia Stone, LLC to lease 612 North Roselawn Avenue reached consideration.

City Clerk, Summer Valverde, brought forth a budget adjustment resolution during the reports session of the meeting.

Outgoing Mayor, Raye Miller, gave updates and final reports as it was his final meeting in the chair position. Mayor Miller led the discussion to designate a City Councilor to chair the March 22, 2022 meeting. The mayor also sought approval to act in consultation with Mayor Elect Henry and appropriate existing Council Committee on issues requiring necessary action for the first City Council Meeting in April.

Then, the council went into an executive session to discuss personnel matters and threatened or pending litigation. The disciplinary matter concerned the Infrastructure Department.

Before adjourning the meeting, Mayor Miller expressed his thanks to all of the department heads for their ability to work as a team. He believes that a city doesn’t need a city manager when they have great department heads. The department heads are responsible for so much behind the scenes work that happens in the city. Mr. Miller appreciates the time spent working with the City Councilors during his time in office. The mayor offered to meet with any of the new councilors and mentioned that he and Mayor Elect Henry sat down together for a three and a half hour visit about the city.
