In this Spring edition of Focus on Artesia Magazine, we celebrate local leadership and visionaries, featuring stories of those who have moved out of their comfort zone and shaken things up by making positive change: the movers and shakers, risk takers, and innovators.
These pages are filled with individuals and groups who extend a helping hand to make Artesia a better place.
The phrase “movers and shakers” is commonly used to describe the powerful and influential people who make great achievements. For this issue, our team has focused on community members, young and old, who exemplify leadership, have overcome obstacles, and have initiated growth at the local level. Their impact extends over many generations. These movers and shakers are essential to carrying our community into the future.
When I took to Facebook to get some story ideas, I was blown away by the response. There were so many fantastic nominations. I longed to add enough pages to highlight every single nomination. From teachers and coaches to volunteers, civic organizations, and non-profits, Artesia is truly the City of Champions!
I cannot help but feel a sense of optimism about the future after putting this issue together. I realize there is still so much to be written about the resilience and strength of our community. I hope you find a fresh perspective on life and growth as you read through this spring issue. The hard work, dedication, and perseverance reflected in each of these articles presents a sense of hope for the future. Let that hope inspire action within you.
It is our honor to continue sharing the stories of the Pecos Valley. As a native New Mexican and lifelong resident of Artesia myself, there is still so much to learn about the people, events, and businesses in our region. We hope that you will join us as we grow and share our content in the magazine and on our website, Focus NM Daily. As your local source for all things community news and lifestyle in Southeast New Mexico, our team continues to be committed to publishing stories in print and online to celebrate our city.
Please take notice of the advertisements you see on these pages. These businesses and organizations make up the fabric of our community. The struggle has been real for all of us, but the pandemic has made it especially difficult for them. Finding ways to support local businesses has always been important but now more than ever, please consider shopping small over big box stores, tipping generously, and being kind to those who serve our community so well.
As always, I want to encourage you to FOCUS on the good—here’s to a new year and a fresh perspective!
All my best,
Jessica Addington
