Carlsbad Police Department Lt. Allen Perez is one of two local first responders recently recognized as a Devon Hometown Hero. The program highlights the dedication and expertise of emergency responders, including law enforcement officials, firefighters, EMTs, 911 dispatchers and city employees.
Multiple people — including Carlsbad Fire Department Lt. Mark Moreno, a fellow Hometown Hero — nominated Perez for the award.
“Lt. Perez is a valued asset of the Carlsbad Police Department as he has served in numerous capacities and is currently a Patrol Lieutenant,” said Carlsbad Police Chief Brandon Skinner. “We are extremely proud of him for all of the extra-curricular events that he and his family involve themselves in within our Carlsbad community. His efforts in coaching our local youth in football and his community service efforts do not go unnoticed and is a tribute to his dedication as a public servant. We appreciate and thank him for how well he has represented himself as a community member and family member of the Carlsbad Police Department.”
Perez has worked in law enforcement for 12 years and has spent the last five years with the Carlsbad Police Department. During this time, he has successfully recovered numerous unregistered weapons and has worked diligently to keep the streets of Carlsbad safe. Before being promoted to lieutenant, he served on the Eddy County Regional SWAT Team and was a defensive tactics and driving while intoxicated instructor.
“Emergency responders like Allen regularly put the community’s needs above their own and perform life-changing work every day,” said Shannon Johnson, senior community relations specialist for Devon. “The Hometown Hero award represents our appreciation for his sacrifices and selflessness in protecting his neighbors.”
Jessica Villanueva, the terminal agency coordinator for the Lea County Communications Authority, was also recognized with the Hometown Hero Award.
