Sock Hop & Coca-Cola Floats at Central Elementary

FNMD Header Schools Artesia
Central Elementary School hosts a fabulous ’50s Sock Hop complete with throw-back coke floats for students who complete their AR reading goals for the second nine weeks of school. While the pandemic rages, the Central staff put on their thinking caps for how to continue the Sock Hop tradition with COVID-19 safe practices. Central tweaked their methods slightly and incorporated social distancing into the Sock Hop plan in addition to mandated mask wearing. Students space themselves 6 feet apart on the dance floor while they rock out in stocking feet and enjoy their floats spaced apart as well.

For the many students who complete their goals, they enjoy the experience of leaving their shoes in their classrooms and trundling in their socks down to the school’s gymnasium. Oldie tunes like Rockin’ Robin and The Twist greet students as they enter the gym along with friendly staff members who teach them how to twist and dance in their stocking feet.

With the tunes rockin, students line up for coke floats. They dance, listen to music, and enjoy the bubbly pleasure of a coke float to celebrate their scholastic achievement. Keep it up, Bullpups!
