The First Presbyterian Church will pick up Cub Scout Pack 270’s historic charter in Artesia. The foundation of the charter for Pack 270 stretches back to 1988 with the Hermosa PTO as the sponsoring agency. Many Artesia natives remember participating in Pack 270 as a child.

As the years have went by and Boy Scouts of America/Cub Scouts evolved as an organization, the PTO at Hermosa was no longer able to meet the needs of a modern Cub Scout Pack. The decision to search for a new sponsoring organization meant ending the charter of the longest running Cub Scout Pack in New Mexico; while the charter partener changes, the pack number will remain the same continuing the legacy of Artesia’s Cub Scout Pack.

Pastor Scott Pettus of First Presbyterian Church, the new chartering agency, was once a Cub Scout himself in the original Pack 270. Pack 270 is excited to be housed under the wing of the Presbyterian church looks forward to holding weekly den and pack meetings Monday nights at 6pm at the corner location of 4th and Grand.
