New Year, New Connections

Looking to shake things up in the new year? Looking to try a new hobby or meet some new folks? Here’s a rundown of all of the local community events that happen in Artesia either weekly or biweekly. There are groups for both children and adults. Read on for all of the fabulous details!

MOPS:
MOPS stands for Mother’s of Preschoolers and is a national organization dedicated to connections young mothers! MOPs meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month 9:30-11:30am at 500 W. Grand Avenue in Artesia, New Mexico. Childcare provided for children not yet in school. Mamas, come take a break at bimonthly MOPS meetings.

Mom’s Life:
Mom’s Life is for moms of any age and stage of life that are looking to connect and build relationships with other moms in our area. $5 each meeting includes breakfast, coffee, topical discussions, a craft or outreach project, and CONNECTION with moms! Jan. 11 & 25, Feb. 8 & 22, Mar. 15 & 29, Apr. 12 & 26, May 10.

Community Bible Study:

Come see what happens in people’s lives when they discover God through the study of His Word, the Bible. Our classes meet weekly during the school year. Each class member receives a course book with a commentary and home study questions. Each week, you’ll participate in small group discussions and a large group teaching. From time to time, fellowship meals will provide special times of sharing and relationship building within the class. Tuesdays at 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM at First Baptist Church in Artesia, New Mexico.

Boy Scouts:
Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting experience for youth in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout. Boy Scout Troop 228 of Artesia meets Tuesdays at 6pm at Westside Church of Christ.

Cub Scouts:
Cub Scout activities are centered around earning  badges that are specific to each school grade level.  This badge represents a rank.  Advancement refers to the progress a Cub Scout makes toward their badge of rank.  All of the activities for each rank are in the Cub Scout handbooks. Cub Scouts meets every Monday at 6pm at the Westside Church of Christ. Follow Pack 270 on Instagram for updates.
 
Girl Scouts: 
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Contact the Chamber of Commerce to get in touch with Girl Scout leader Betty Garcia.

January 13: Family Nailed It! Competition (5:30-7:00 pm) (Compete as a team to make a literary-themed treat in 30 minutes)

3rd Monday of the month:  Noon Book Discussion (12:00 pm)
4th Monday of the month:  What Can You Macrame? (10:00 am)
1st Tuesday of the month:  Virtually Crafty (12:00 pm on Facebook Live)
2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month:  Family History Night (7:00–9:00 pm)
2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month:  Yarn United (12:00 pm)
1st Thursday of the month:  DIY Files (4:30 pm)
3rd Thursday of the month:  Kitch Lit Book Discussion (1:30 pm)
December 3rd and every other Friday: Magic Gathering (collectible card game free play) (3:00-6:00 pm)
December through February: Winter Reading Program: Book-opoly

Artesia Senior Center:
ASC serves adults over the age of 50. They provide recreation, transportation, resources, and referrals. Check out what’s happening at the Senior Center at 202 W. Chisum Monday through Friday 8 am to 4 pm or call at 575-748-1207.
