Artesia School Board December Update

FNMD Header Schools Artesia
The December 13th regularly scheduled school board meeting agenda commenced by recognizing the seniors of the 2021 State Championship Volleyball team following the call to order, roll, pledge of allegiance and salute to the New Mexico flag. The seniors recognized were: Lillynn Lewis, Ashlyn Rodriguez, Alexa Silva, and Nataly Leon. Congratulations once again to this incredible group of young women on their accomplishment!

After financial reports were given the assistant superintendents, Cody Skinner and Danny Parker, proceeded with their agenda items seeking approval. Cody
Skinner, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education & Federal Programs, and Danny Parker, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education began with the renewal request for PowerSchool. The school district looks to renew its contract with PowerSchool as its student information system. PowerSchool connects students, parents, and the district with records regarding attendance and grades.

After the assistant superintendents gave their reports, the Assistant Superintendent of Operations began reports detailing the request for approval from the board to renovate the Estelle Yates Auditorium, accept a CES Proposal for Design Services for Artesia High School roof and mechanical renovation as well as one for the Artesia Junior High Kitchen renovation. The request for approval to renovate continued to include the handicap ramps at Roselawn Elementary School. The district also sought permission to purchase 600 laptops as per the master plan on the district facilities.

John Ross Null, APS Superintendent, continued the meeting with updates regarding personnel. Once the updates were complete, he explained a request to seek a Memorandium of Understanding between the Artesia Aquatic Center and the district. Discussion then turned to the search and selection process of a new superintendent for the district when Mr. Null steps down from his position in June.

The next school board meeting will be January 10th at 6 pm. The public is welcome to the meetings. Masks are required. A Zoom link to attend virtually is also available on the school board meeting upcoming agenda posted on the district’s website at:
