The exotic and a few more domesticated types of animals are coming off of the mountain from Runyan Ranch at Mayhill to the Pecos Valley to star in the annual First United Methodist Church’s Live Nativity in Artesia! The star studded animal cast includes “Runyan” the camel and a multitude of sheep and goats to set the scene of that long ago night in Bethlehem. The Live Nativity will take place December 19th at 6pm.

The animal cast will support local kids and church members participating in the live reading of the Christmas story. Kids will dress as shepherds and angels and will be accompanied by Mary, Joseph, and three wisemen. A live musical performance will be given by the praise band to help tell the story of the birth of Christ.

Richard Slaughter, youth pastor at FUMC, expresses his excitement for the community event. The Live Nativity, “provides us an opportunity to share the gospel and the Christmas message in a special setting with exciting guests,” he explains. There’s hot cocoa and coffee and cookies to enjoy during the performance too. This year there will also be a welcome table to get to know the congregation at FUMC.
