Focus Carlsbad Fall 2021 | Editor’s Letter

Headers2020-Letter-from-Editor

Kids: they’re busy, they’re active, and they’re full of drive.

In speaking with Carlsbad kids over the past several weeks, I appreciate how full their lives are. They’ve built communities within their respective interests of friends who have become like family. They’re proud to represent these micro communities on the court, on the dirt track, along the river, and at the kid-centered non-profits around town. Together, Carlsbad kids are stronger. They thrive in sharing a passion. Now, as the community finds footholds after the unprecedented 2020-2021 school year, we know that our youth need to be surrounded by those that motivate them and support them.

It is the hope of the Focus team and our wonderful advertisers that this edition of the community magazine shows a few new ways to connect the youngsters with programs and activities in our community, if they haven’t already. Be sure to check out the contact information and the social media links listed in the following articles about the rockstar kids of Carlsbad. Read about the Bratcher and Roberts families in “Grammy and Papa’s Backyard Motocross Kidz,” Gracie Eckles in the Community Spotlight, the Our Diamond Miss Queens, and more!

These youth WANT to share their interests and teach others to love what they do as well, so make sure to reach out and ask them questions. Even better: take them up on their invitations to watch a match, see a performance, cheer at a race, attend a pageant, volunteer at an event, or take a trip to the river. Discovering a new interest is always time well spent. I’m looking forward to taking my own children to some Cavemen and Cavegirl events this fall and to some motocross races. I also plan to take them on a few more trips to the Pecos River to expose them to the many youth-driven activities. I hope in attending these events that my kids feel inspired to try something new—to put themselves out there and experience all that our community has to offer for kids.

I’d like to thank you for taking the time to read our publication. Please show your appreciation for all of the businesses and organizations you see on these pages; we wouldn’t be able to tell these stories without them.
