Artesia Public School Board prepares for elections November 2nd. Elections for school board positions in districts #1, 2, and 4 will be on the ballot as will the Mill Levy to support various projects around the district. In addition to regular topics, the board heard proposals to declare 2021 the Year of Literacy and to accept a bid for new acoustic paneling in the high school band room.

The updated Social Studies standards received discussion too as the state pressures districts to implement Critical Race Theory in the classroom. APS will host a Lunch and Learn event about Critical Race Theory at the Artesia Country Club November 2nd. Doors open 11:45am and the program begins at 12:15pm. Learn about what the theory is, what APS is doing, and what you can do as well.

The School Board was also addressed by a group of concerned citizens expressing chagrin regarding the impending state mandate for COVID-19 vaccinations for students of APS. Vaccinations and Critical Race Theory are at the top of many conversation lists around the community.
