We’re just a few days away from the 2021 Carlsbad Mayor’s Energy Summit, and we wanted to go over a few more details of what to expect. We hope you’ll attend in person, because we’ll be serving our world-famous steaks for lunch. The summit is going to be taking place from 8 a.m. until around 1 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the civic center. We will have golf-carts to help with those who have to park far away.
If you aren’t able to make it this year, that’s OK- the summit will be broadcast over Facebook and on Youtube, but you’ll be missing out on the steaks.
The summit is officially in its 11th year, but we’re calling it our tenth anniversary this year because last year’s event was virtual. We’re also very excited to have former Governor Susana Martinez as one of our special guests. Danny Fletcher will be our emcee again this year and always does a great job.
One of the things we are most looking forward to about this year will be the morning presentation by Vicki Hollub, who is the CEO of Occidental Petroleum. Hollub became President and CEO of Oxy in 2016 and has been with the company for 35 years. She’s going to be sharing some interesting items of her history in the oil and gas industry. She holds her degree in mineral engineering.
Chevron’s Eileen McGrath-Conner, who is the general manger of Health, Safety and & Environment for Chevron’s Mid-Continent Business Unit, started her career in 1995 as a chemist. She’s another one of our speakers at this year’s summit. So many of our speakers have strong science backgrounds, and this sets a great example for the BPA and Skills USA students who help us out every year.
Our new college, Southeast New Mexico, will have a booth at the summit, as will the University of Tulsa. We hope to bring these two colleges together to continue to develop more science programs for our students right here in Carlsbad. Of course, Tony Dorsett will tell his own life story about the value of hard work and determination.
