Dorsett to Headline Energy Summit

Tony Dorsett Action run

Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett will be visiting Carlsbad on Oct. 21 to headline the 2021 Carlsbad Mayor’s Energy Summit.

The event will run from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and is being held at the Walter Gerrells Exhibition Center, 4012 National Parks Highway.

“We’re very excited to welcome Mr. Dorsett back to Carlsbad as our motivational speaker for this year’s energy summit,” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway. “We think the public is going to really enjoy the entire summit and find it to be highly informative.”

This year’s theme – “Moving Forward” – captures the energy industry’s diverse recovery efforts in a post COVID-19 environment.

Dorsett will speak during lunch and will take questions from local athletes. Vicki Hollub, the CEO of Occidental Petroleum, and Kent Hance, Chancellor Emeritus of Texas Tech University, will begin the summit’s morning session.

Other presenters at the summit include Clay Gaspar, Chief Operating Officer with Devon Energy; Eric Ormond, Senior Vice President, Engineering & Projects Management with Crestwood Energy Partners LP; Josh Viets, ConocoPhillips’ Vice President of the Delaware Basin; and Eileen McGrath-Conner, General Manager, Health Safety & Environment with the Chevron Mid-Continent United.

James Kenney, Secretary of the New Mexico Environment Department and Adrienne Sandoval, Director of the state’s Oil Conservation Division, will represent the State of New Mexico. A steak lunch will be served and is made possible by the event’s many sponsors.

The event is free and open to the public. Participants are asked to RSVP by emailing aalong@cityofcarlsbadnm.com. More information is available at https://carlsbadfoundation.org/summit/

The 2020 Carlsbad Mayor’s Energy Summit was a virtual event. COVID-19 safe practices will be in place this year, including streaming options for anyone who wants to watch the event from home.

“It was a great discussion, featuring former NMSU Chancellor Garrey Carruthers, but we’re certainly glad to be back having this year’s event in person,” Janway said.

An estimated two dozen non profits and sponsors will also set up display booths at the event, with many offering giveaways and prize drawings.  The Energy Summit was developed by Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway as a way for local residents to learn more about what to expect from industry experts themselves.
